John W. Davis received his B.S in Biology at Davidson College in North Carolina in 1990, and Medical Degree at the University of Virginia in 1994. His postgraduate training (residency and post doctoral fellow with the American Foundation of Urological Diseases) was at Eastern Virginia School of Medicine, Norfolk, VA Additional clinical fellowships included Urology Oncology at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, in Houston, Texas, and laparoscopic surgery at Charité Hospital, Berlin, Germany.
Current faculty position since 2006 at MD Anderson Cancer Center with the titles Professor of Urology, Director of Urosurgical Prostate Program, Patient Safety and Quality Officer, and Site Director of the UT-Houston Residency.
His extramural leadership positions in professional societies have included President of the Young Urologic Oncologists (2003-2005), and President of the Society of Urologic Robotic Surgeons (2010-2012). For the American Urological Association, he served on the Minimally Invasive Surgery and Video Committees, and teaches post-graduate courses in prostate cancer, and co-hosts the multi year series at the annual meeting “The International Prostate Forum”. He is the former Treasurer for the South Central Section of the AUA, and past president. He was the inaugural editor for AUA Publications Online Content. His peer reviewed publication involvement is highlighted by the 8-year term as Associate Editor for Urologic Oncology for the British Journal of Urology International, and the inaugural Editor in Chief for BJUI Compass. In 2022, he was appointed the inaugural editor for the AUA’s new Journal of Urology Open Plus.
