Assoc. Prof. Edmund Chiong, is presently the Head and Senior Consultant of the Department of Urology, National University Hospital, Singapore. He is also an Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Chairman of the Genitourinary Cancer Programme, National University Cancer Institute, Singapore. Assoc. Prof. Chiong graduated with the degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the National University of Singapore in 1995. He obtained postgraduate qualifications (Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons In Ireland) in Surgery (in 2000) and completed of his Urology specialist training in Singapore. Assoc. Prof. Chiong subsequently underwent a 2-year clinical fellowship program in Urologic Oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, USA. His sub-specialty interest is in Urologic Oncology and performing DaVinci robotic surgery. His research interests include investigating immunotherapy, gene therapy and targeted therapy for bladder cancer, and diagnostic modalities and new therapies for urologic malignancies. He was conferred a PhD (NUS) for his thesis on targeted therapy for bladder cancer. He also runs a number of clinical trials in bladder and prostate cancer. He has minor interests in investigating urinary tract infections, and medical device innovation. Assoc. Prof. Chiong is Immediate Past Chairman of the Chapter of Urologists and Honorary Secretary of the College of Surgeons, Academy of Medicine, Singapore, is Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Past President (2016-2018) of the Singapore Urological Association, and Chairman of the Examinations Committee for Urology and Board member, Residency Advisory Committee / Joint Committee on Specialist Training (JCST), Ministry of Health, Singapore. He is also a member of the American Urological Association, European Association of Urology, American Society of Clinical Oncology and the Urological Association of Asia (UAA).
