Juan Luis Vásquez is a Venezuelan-born urologist, academic, and clinical leader, currently serving as Chief Consultant and Head of the Urothelial Cancer Team at Zealand University Hospital and Associate Professor at the University of Copenhagen.
He earned his medical degree from the Universidad Central de Venezuela in 2006 and relocated to Denmark in 2007. In 2014, he completed a PhD at the University of Copenhagen with a focus on electrochemotherapy for bladder cancer, a field in which he remains an innovator—holding a patent for a novel electrode system designed for bladder tumor treatment and soon running the first in human trials.
Vásquez became a certified urologist in 2019 and quickly rose to leadership, contributing over 30 peer-reviewed publications and guiding multiple PhD projects focused on bladder cancer treatment, electroporation, and UTUC.
His research has secured more than €700,000 in grant funding.
He holds held several high-profile positions in European urology: Chair of the EAU Section of Endourology (Bladder), Chair of the EAU Young Urologists Office, and member of the EAU Board and Board Member of the Danish Bladder Cancer Group.
A seasoned speaker and mentor, Vásquez has delivered over 100 invited lectures internationally and organized more than 75 scientific meetings. He is the founder of the award-winning EAU Talent Incubator Programme, recognized for advancing equity and leadership in urology.
