Abstract Content
Introduction
Introduction: Active Surveillance (AS) is a common treatment option for many men with prostate cancer. (1,2) Traditionally AS has been recommended for patients in the low risk category, however now patients with favourable intermediate risk prostate cancer are now undertaking AS as current recommendations from both the NCCN and EAU guidelines endorse the use of AS in this group. (1, 2) From previous publications from PCOR data, it appears around 15% of patients diagnosed with prostate cancer were treated with AS from 2008-2012 (3) A recent study shows that AS uptake is increasing, (4) and we want to know the current trends in Victoria. We are also interested to see if socioeconomic factors, such as geographical location and public vs private sector impacts uptake of AS.
Materials and Methods
Methods: We will define AS as those undergoing AS at 1 year as registered in the PCOR data set. We will then perform logistic regression on AS with variables related to prostate cancer prognosis such as ISUP grade, PSA levels and clinical staging, and variables related to social determinants of health such as geographical location based on the Modified Monash Model (MMM), type of healthcare funding, Private vs Public and Index of Relative Socio-Economic Disadvantage (IRSD).
