Abstract Content
Minimally invasive treatments such as Rezūm and UroLift have been proven effective for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). We report a successful case of Rezūm therapy following a previously unsuccessful UroLift treatment.
A 61-year-old male with diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, and severe BPH underwent UroLift in 2022 but continued to experience significant lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and difficult voiding. By 2024, the patient had a prostate volume of 84.40 mL, with an International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) of 27, peak flow rate of 5 mL/s, voided volume of 160 mL, and post-void residual volume of 26 mL. Rezūm therapy was performed in March 2024, and the Foley catheter was removed 12 days postoperatively without complications.
Follow-up evaluations at 3 months after Rezum therapy demonstrated substantial symptom relief, including reduced nocturia, improved peak urinary flow (14 mL/s), a voided volume of 231 mL, and a post-void residual volume of 31 mL. Additionally, there was a reduction in IPSS (12), an improvement in quality of life score (3), and a decrease in prostate volume (50.46 mL). Sexual function remained stable throughout the follow-up period.
Rezūm therapy effectively improves recurrent LUTS and urinary function after unsuccessful UroLift treatment, providing symptom relief while preserving sexual function.
