Abstract Content
Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women, with an incidence of 15.1 cases and a mortality rate of 8.2 per 100,000. At Level 3 Government Hospital, complications from cervical cancer, particularly urinary tract obstruction caused by the cancer mass, account for 11-44% of cases. This study aims to assess the clinical profile of cervical cancer patients and compare the complications related to nephrostomy tube and stent insertions at the hospital.
This retrospective descriptive study examined cervical cancer patients admitted to Level 3 Government Hospital from January 2019 to August 2024. Data on clinical profiles and patient outcomes were extracted from medical records. A total of 50 patients were included and divided into two groups.
Among 50 patients, results were analyzed based on age, performance status, cancer staging, hydronephrosis degree, and baseline creatinine levels, with only baseline creatinine showing significance (p=0.024). The study compared complications from nephrostomy tubes and stent insertions, finding dysuria significant (p<0.000) and peri-catheter leak also notable (p=0.002).
The clinical characteristics of cervical cancer patients undergoing urinary diversions are intricate. They are significantly influenced by baseline creatinine levels, but other factors such as age, performance status, cancer stage, and degree of hydronephrosis must also be considered. Each type of urinary diversion is associated with specific complications, which can differ in nature and frequency. Understanding these factors is essential for improving treatment strategies and patient outcomes.
