Abstract Content
Introduction
Nowadays, one of the prevalent reasons for visiting urology clinics is urinary incontinence, which has various causes at different ages. One of the less common causes of this issue is the development of cysts in the prostate gland, which presents itself at various ages with distinct symptoms of irritation and obstruction. In this study, we aim to explore one of the simplest and most accessible methods for treating large prostate cysts.
Materials and Methods
The current study was carried out as a case series between 1402 and 1403. In this study, 18 patients with prostate cysts, having a mean diameter of 6.34 ± 2.24 cm, underwent transurethral resection of the cyst roof. Following the resection, a repeat ultrasound was conducted one week later, and the patients were revisited and followed up at 6 and 12 months.
Results
Upon reviewing the outcomes of this study, no signs of cyst recurrence were observed in all patients at one week and 6 months post-resection. At the 12-month follow-up, only one patient (5%) exhibited evidence of cyst recurrence. Throughout the patients' follow-up, no complications were noted, and the patients' symptoms fully resolved. In just one instance, retrograde ejaculation was detected in a patient at the 12-month follow-up, which was successfully treated with medication.
Conclusions
Excising the roof of protruding prostate cysts into the urethra and bladder via the duct presents a low-risk, readily available method that could serve as a viable alternative to draining these cysts through open or transrectal surgery.
