Introduction
To share our experience on technical improvements and the results of treating symptomatic bladder diverticula with transvesical laparoscopic surgery to remove bladder diverticula by author Pansadoro.
Materials and Methods
From March 2021, we recruited all patients who came to the clinic with persistent urinary tract infections and bladder diverticula symptoms. After treating the cause of bladder outlet obstruction, we performed surgery to remove the bladder diverticula using transvesical laparoscopic surgery. Success was defined as the disappearance of lower urinary tract symptoms, and no recurrent bladder diverticula was detected on abdominal ultrasound.
Results
Four patients underwent laparoscopic transvesical diverticulectomy from March 2021 to March 2024. The mean operative time was 191 minutes (range 120 – 240 minutes). The amount of blood loss is negligible (<50ml). The median diameter of the diverticula was 47 mm (range 25–68 mm). The average hospital discharge time was 4.5 days. No patient had complications after surgery. Follow-up of the patient at months 1 and 3 showed no recurrence.
Conclusions
Laparoscopic transvesical surgery to remove the bladder diverticulum, combined with an improved urethral trocar as an operating channel, is effective, feasible, safe, quick, and direct access to bladder diverticula, helps patients recover quickly after surgery, and a promising method for treating symptomatic bladder diverticula. Follow-up studies with larger numbers of patients are needed.
