Abstract Content
Introduction
Perinephric hydatid is a rare disease and its management by robot-assistance is not published in literature till date. We describe the presentation and management of a case of perinephric hydatid cyst around the left kidney masquerading as a ruptured renal hydatid.
Materials and Methods
A 35-year-old male presented to us with left flank pain, left lower chest pain and dry cough. On evaluation, he was suspected to have ruptured left renal hydatid cyst with pleural effusion. The patient was planned for surgical management with robot-assistance. Palanivelu hydatid trocar-cannula system was used to suction the cyst contents and irrigate it with scolicidal agents. The cyst was found to be intact and outside the renal capsule. It was carefully excised and extracted using endobag.
Results
Docking time was 12 minutes. Console time was 185 minutes. Estimated blood loss was 40 ml.Oral feeds were resumed on post-operative day 1. Pain score was 2 on visual analog scale on day zero. Patient was discharged on day 2 after drain removal.
Conclusions
Robot-assisted excision of hydatid cyst is a safe and effective technique and can be used in combination with the Palanivelu trocar-cannula system to treat perinephric hydatid cyst.
