Abstract Content
Dartos preserving circumcision aims to minimize complications and preserve penile sensitivity. This study evaluates the outcomes of this technique in a cohort of 101 patients, drawing comparisons with existing literature on circumcision outcomes.
A retrospective review was conducted on 101 patients who underwent Dartos preserving circumcision between 2019 and 2023 at MS Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore. Demographic and clinical data were collected and analysed. The Intraoperative and postoperative parameters were assessed for outcomes including operative time, reactionary hemorrhage, penile edema, wound infection, glanular scab formation, wound scarring, chronic pain, meatal stenosis, chordee and altered sensitivity and patient satisfaction were assessed.
The mean operative time was found to be 21+/-1 minutes. Postoperative complications observed were reactionary hemorrhage (2 cases, 1.98%), penile edema (3 cases, 2.97%), glanular scab formation (2 cases, 1.98%), wound scarring (2 cases, 1.98%), wound infection (3 cases, 2.97%), chronic pain (1 case, 0.99%) and reduced postoperative sensitivity (2 cases, 1.98%). Patient satisfaction was high, with 90 patients (89.11%) reporting being very satisfied, 9 patients (8.91%) satisfied, and 2 patients (1.98%) reporting neutral satisfaction. No patients had developed chordee and meatal stenosis. The above findings of post-operative complications were found to be well below the expected range as per current existing literature
Dartos preserving circumcision demonstrates a favorable safety profile with minimal complications and high patient satisfaction. The observed complication rates are comparable to those reported in larger adult circumcision studies, while the preservation of Dartos layer appears to contribute to minimal sensory alteration. This technique offers a viable surgical option, balancing efficacy and patient-reported outcomes.
