Abstract Content
Laparoscopy and open nephrectomy are key surgical methods for treating renal diseases such as cancer and chronic conditions. While laparoscopy offers more perioperative benefits, open surgery is still common in developing countries. Thus, this study aims to compare both methods outcomes in such setting.
We reviewed multiple studies on Laparoscopy and Open nephrectomy outcomes using standard meta-analysis methods to pool effect sizes and assess bias risk.
Laparoscopic nephrectomy showed reduced blood loss, shorter hospital stays, quicker drain removals, and faster operative time than open surgery, though access remains limited in some regions.
Laparoscopic nephrectomy offers significant advantages over open nephrectomy. However, its adoption in developing countries faces challenges such as high equipment costs, limited access to specialized training, and lower surgical volumes. Further research is needed to develop appropriate guidelines for surgical approaches in resource-limited areas
