Abstract Content
Introduction
The medical profession in general and urologists in particular today face many challenges in their practice and day to day life. We looked to assess the impact of practice and its associated lifestyle on a Urologist’s quality of life.
Materials and Methods
An online questionnaire was circulated to individual urologists. There were multiple questions with graded responses wherein urologists recorded their responses. Analysis was done by dividing the urologist into in training, less than 5 years experience, 5-10 year experience and more than 10 year experience. Responses were analysed
Results
Majority of Urologists in our county were males. Females faced several challenges both in their personal and professional life trying to balance the two. Rising number of trainees and lack of training opportunities in their home institute were major concerns of the in training group. Fresh urologists rued the lack of opportunities in big cities and the trend of roaming urologist which created significant impact on their overall quality of life. Most urologists were however happy with their choice of profession
Conclusions
There are multiple challenges faced by urologists in developing counties like ours and each subgroup has unique problems. These need to be addressed effectively to ensure we have a good quality of life and work life balance.
