Abstract Content
Laser prostatectomy has been increasingly used as a surgical treatment for bladder outlet obstruction related to benign prostatic hyperplasia. We conducted a study to analyzed the impact of laser energy on surgical outcome from laser prostatectomy
We reviewed medical records of patients who underwent laser prostatectomy in single institute from June 2020 to December 2024. The medical records were analyzed retrospectively, and we collected the data including PSA, prostate volume, accumulated laser energy during prostatectomy, pathologic results, and surgical outcome.
The patients were divided into different group according to their prostate size, and we compared the individual laser energy and resected weight of prostate with their surgical outcome. No correlation was found between laser accumulated energy and surgical outcome.
The correlation between the accumulated energy from laser prostatectomy and surgical outcome was not statistically significant, so the laser prostatectomy accumulated energy is independent from the surgical outcome. Our study suggested that the amount of energy we use for laser prostatectomy do not impact the outcome of surgery.
